My Magazine - House Styles

COLOUR PALLET

MASTHEAD DESIGNS

For this masthead, I chose colours that fit into the colour scheme that I made. I chose to have the actual writing darker than the background so it's clearly readable, but I chose a background colour that compliments the dark blue text. The style of the text is similar to that of hand-written music notations, which the target audience of the magazine would recognize it. The background is a treble cleff and a set of staves, the manuscript on which classical music is written. A 'cadence' is a musical term for the end of a piece. It may be recognized by those looking at the magazine, but it is also considered a nice name.

The purple colour of this masthead design fits in with my colour scheme. The colour can be used against a light background and perhaps some dark ones as well. The capital letters would draw attention to the cover, as would the bold and 'friendly' looking irregularity of the text, which makes it look as if it was hand drawn. The word 'cadenza' means a solo given to a player during a piece in which they're allowed to show off their musical skills.

This colour, like the other designs, fits in with the colour scheme (which is based around purples going into blues). The capital letters and underline make it bold and easy to recognize. The space at the top has room for a neatly placed caption, such as 'Britain's best music magazine'. I'm now thinking that if I add another line at the top and the caption block to the bottom, I could draw valves on the top and have the masthead resemble a trumpet. A concerto is a piece of music in which an entire orchestra accompanies a solo instrument - that person usually being incredibly skilled, and the ability to play in a concerto is usually considered an honor.

This masthead has a simpler name (mostly a temporary name so I could experiment with styles), but, if it were to be used, it would likely suggest that the magazine contains a wide range of information. The style of the 'M' is written as three quavers, a type of musical note. The font is also similar to hand written music, and the dark blue fits into the colour scheme. It would be clear against a light background.
